Day 5 of Prayer & Fasting - 01/15/2024

Scripture to read and think about today: Psalm 27 - Power Of Patience
In today’s fast-paced world, patience seems like a lost virtue. We're accustomed to immediate gratification, evident in services like Amazon Prime, InstaCart, and DoorDash, even Walmart+ InHome Delivery. This culture of convenience has infiltrated our lives, subtly influencing our expectations for quick responses and instant results. This is not just limited to our daily conveniences but extends to our faith life as well.
Reflecting on this, let's consider Psalm 27:14, which commands us to “Wait on the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” This verse serves as a poignant reminder in our times of waiting. We often struggle with patience, especially when it comes to awaiting responses to our prayers. Our modern lifestyle, accented by instantaneous communication, makes the idea of waiting on anything, including God’s timing, challenging. This impatience can lead to frustration and even anger when we perceive that God isn’t moving quickly enough in our situations.
However, the Bible consistently reminds us to embrace patience as a key aspect of our discipleship and a manifestation of the Holy Spirit within us. Psalm 27:14 not only encourages us to wait on the Lord but also to "be strong" and "take courage." These two key points highlight the essence of patience in our spiritual walk.
Psalm 27:14 encourages us to view patience, not as a passive way of waiting for events to unfold, specifically our prayers…but as an active, empowering virtue. It's about developing a mindset that values and embraces the journey, even when the destination or outcome is not immediately visible. As we grow in our faith, let us strive to incorporate this powerful and courageous patience into every aspect of our lives.
